As children we have dreams, we dream of being an astronaut, we dream of becoming a teacher, we dream of being a Barker’s Beauty on The Price is Right (how hilarious, that was one of my aspirations and I walked around the house holding up household supplies for the audience to see while tapping it slightly with my gracefully and odd stroking fingers, yikes), and whatever grabs our short-lived-attention-span for the day.
When did we stop with the crazy dreams and trying out all kinds of things? We start to ask more serious questions as the seasons of life age us; Where do you want to go to college? What do you want to do with your degree? When are ya’ll gonna get married? When do you plan to start a family?
What about we start asking each other and OURSELVES,
What dreams did you have as a child that you want to pursue? What do you do just because it’s simply fun? What dream do you want to bring to life in the next year?
As a teenager I remember wanting to learn a musical instrument and tried a few, but alas, I was lazy and never stuck with it. So you know what dream I’m dreaming on…..
That’s right. I’m terrible with rhythm and Lord knows I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, but I’m trying to learn the ukulele. It just makes me feel good to have it in my hands, to strum it, to play the same 5 chords I know over and over.
I always enjoyed doodling, coloring, writing stories, anything with colors, my hands, my words and my imagination. So you know what dream I’m dreaming on…..
That’s right. This blog, my travel journal for poems while on the road, my sketch pad, and taking coloring books to the park. I’ve been reminiscing over my old sketchbooks and each picture time travels me back to why I created the design, what I felt when I made it, and how exciting it felt.
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.
What did you enjoy as a kiddo? What dreams did you have for yourself? What are you doing for fun and to keep your wild imagination going? Take a picture, post a comment, let’s spread dreams around and let each other know it’s okay to dream on. In fact, we beg of you Dream On and sing with me, sing for the years….
